Network Video Recorder ( NVR )A Network Video Recorder (NVR) is a system comprising of hardware and software that records video in a digital format to a disk drive, USB flash drive, SD memory card or other mass storage device. An NVR resides on the network capturing information from IP cameras residing on the same network to the local storage. NVR's do not contain video capture cards or tuner. The main distinction being that video on a DVR is encoded and processed at the DVR, while video on an NVR is encoded and processed at the camera, and streamed to the NVR for storage or remote viewing. However the software is typically run on a dedicated device, usually with an embedded operating system, so NVRs are often mistakenly called DVRs. There are hybrid systems which incorporate functions of both an NVR and a DVR. These are usually also referred to as NVRs QNAP Security models
